2008 Evolution Awards winner in the Household Goods Packaging category, Hewlett Packard is at the leading edge of social responsibility today.
The company’s Poorvi Kumar, who accepted the award, says it was a great honour to be selected.
“Consumers, that is, our customers are becoming more aware and conscious of environmental issues, but rather than sitting back and waiting for legislation to require compliance, HP has set an example by making voluntary contributions."
"We regard this as very important for the company.”
Kumar says the award is proving excellent encouragement for the company's future endeavours in packaging.
“While HP has done a lot of work in terms of product and packaging design, re-using products and recycling, there’s still work to be done to improve our processes,” she explains.
“Being recognised for our work on packaging design together with the knowledge that there are other companies achieving great things in the area of packaging is providing us with a boost and an exciting challenge.
"I think the recognition from our customers afforded by this award will provide us with significant long term benefits.”
Kumar’s advice to companies on the packaging waste journey is to start earlier rather than later.
“It requires investment to change packaging and product design and to put waste management processes in place, but eventually there can be significant cost and environmental savings from doing the right thing,” she says.
"Events like the Evolution Awards are an important part of this process by recognising the achievements of those companies that are most proactive in this area.
“It’s also essential for the survival of coming generations. Why delay it? Do it today.”
Poorvi Kumar confirms that HP intends to grow its industry leadership position in the area of sustainability.
“We’ve already made great strides into environmental responsibility,” she says, “and our strength in packaging waste management is consistently growing.”
