Viscount Plastics and Dulux have achieved a breakthrough in plastic packaging technology set to invigorate the Australian paint industry. It will change the traditional use of the metal paint can forever.
Dulux has exclusively released Viscount Plastics’ new plastic container in its professional applicator product range.
To the uniformed, it may seem that Dulux is simply following the trend of its international peers. After all, plastic packaging technology is nothing new.
However, what is new and what has excited those of us who don’t enjoy watching dry paint contaminate our containers, is the innovative development of a proven paint skinning adhesion technology for the first time.
This patented technology has also provided a recyclable alternative to the traditional metal paint can.
The solution behaves in a similar manner to its metal alternative, of course without the tendency to dent or rust and is now being used commercially within the Australian and New Zealand paint market.
Viscount Plastics' packaging innovation doesn’t stop there.
A list of state-of-the-art improvements have also been adopted, such as high graphic resolution heat decoration, a process that permanently bonds the label to the container. This not only improves aesthetics but increases brand awareness and consumer shelf appeal.
The packaging is lighter weight compared to other plastic packaging yet still meets rigorous drop and top load tests, making it dependable to transport and store.
Furthermore the container has been designed to stack easily, reducing the amount of space empty containers will take up.
The container has been designed so that all parts - lid, body and handle are manufactured from Polypropylene, ensuring maximum recyclability.
Dulux will commence pilot trials of a recycling program with a select group of Dulux trade centres that will see the Viscount-designed paint container returned to point of sales and be collected by plastic recyclers, Replas for reprocessing and reuse.
Without a doubt Viscount Plastics’ proven paint skinning adhesion technology and the Dulux innovative team will revolutionise the Australian paint packaging market and provide a long awaited alternative to the traditional tinplate packaging.
