Australia Post a finalist in Evolution Awards

Australia Post is a finalist in the Retail Packaging Action Award, sponsored by Cryovac, having demonstrated a commitment to protecting the environment in the course of providing a high-quality mail and retail service.

Environmental consideration in packaging design, increased use of recycled material in the production of packaging, and increased recycling of packaging waste are at the core of Australia Post’s National Packaging Covenant commitment.

In conjunction with Visy Specialties, Australia Post developed an innovative and environmentally friendly packaging alternative to polystyrene.

The unique single and two-bottle WINEpak, developed in 2005, is made from 100% recycled cardboard, is 100% recyclable and can also be re-used.

Following life-cycle assessments of two existing wine packs made from polypropylene and polystyrene, a design review of alternative materials by the Centre for Design at RMIT University in Melbourne revealed the use of recycled cardboard protected contents as well as non-recyclable alternatives, while reducing costs and waste to landfill.
