Global warming is at the forefront of food processing industry innovation with a growing number of products and technology on show at foodpro 2008 in July, dedicated to saving the planet.
From Compass Enterprise, which supplies biodegradable plastic products and sustainable paper products, to Ozkor, which uses environmentally friendly packaging solutions — innovators in green developments will be exhibiting at the most prestigious high-profile trade event for the industry in the Asia Pacific region.
The four-day event, held once every three years, will shine the spotlight on the freshest and most dynamic ideas, technology and developments within the food manufacturing industry.
About 9000 people are expected to descend on the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre for foodpro 2008 to see up to 300 suppliers of the food and beverage sectors exhibit across 18,000m² — or almost 4.5 acres — of exhibition space.
Compass Enterprise managing director Pamela Moore says the Hong Kong-based company is dedicated to making a contribution to reducing our impact on the environment.
“Compass Enterprise is a leading procurement and distribution office with environmentally friendly products for companies looking for sustainable options,” Ms Moore says.
“We source products using the latest technology in biodegradable and compostable materials.”
Compass Enterprise supplies sustainable paper products, made from sugar cane, reeds and straw fibers, along with biodegradable plastic products, ranging from food packaging to disposable tableware and a variety of bags.
“Our biodegradable products biodegrade in 180 days and therefore are not contributing to landfill or polluting our waterways,” Ms Moore says.
“Sustainable paper products use reeds and byproducts to produce paper pulp, as an alternative to virgin wood pulp, decreasing the impact on wood forests and utilising byproducts for minimal impact,” says Peter Petherick, of foodpro 2008.
Petherick says the event is also working to assist the planet, undergoing a rigorous carbon emissions audit, to receive the CO2 free™ stamp for its carbon neutrality.
“Taking a green approach is an essential factor of successful companies in today’s environmentally conscious world,” Petherick says.
“More companies than ever before are proving that economic benefits do go hand in hand with environmental concerns.”
Other design innovators include Ozkor, which since it was formed in 1998, has helped major companies achieve considerable cost savings with its series of packaging solutions, utilising materials that can be recycled.
Conserving water is a priority for dry ice blasting equipment experts, Cryonomics Australia.
Its European cleaning technique is not only effective and saves on costs but is also environmentally friendly.
foodpro 2008 will span four halls of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre showcasing every aspect of the food processing industry, from food packaging and the meat industry to food processing equipment, additives, ingredients, testing equipment, water treatment, pumps and ancillary equipment.
A major highlight of foodpro 2008 will be its co-location with the industry’s principal conference featuring advances in food science.
The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Incorporated will host its 41st Annual AIFST Convention discussing the theme - Our Food Our Future.
foodpro 2008 will run from Monday July 21 to Thursday July 24 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
