Machines for all Markets

CPS is Australia ’s premier packaging machines specialist.

“Our company’s unrivalled expertise in the successful implementation of packaging solutions will bring additional value to any organisation,” CEO Rosa Stroszynski tells Packaging Magazine.

“Since the commencement of business in 1982, CPS has integrated packaging machinery on the production floors of over 5000 customers.”

CPS is a privately owned company founded by its proprietor, Chris Bishop, in 1985. Previously known as Cling Packaging Systems, the company was formed as a result of the ever increasing needs of Australian and New Zealand manufacturers for high quality, reliable packaging equipment backed by an efficient after sales support network.

Now that Chris Bishop has retired, Stroszynski sees her role as encompassing the management of the business on his behalf.

“Chris Bishop has been influential in mentoring me in all aspects of the Australian Packaging industry, in particular how it applies to packaging machinery,” she says.

“I am currently responsible for maintaining the growth of the business, for machine volumes, turnover and Nett financial results.”

Stroszynski has worked for CPS for 16 years. “I commenced my CPS working life as a financial and accounting executive,” she recalls. “It was within this department that my interest in packaging began to develop. In the last ten years I’ve have had a managerial role in the packaging side of the business.”

The principal activity of CPS is the representation of the SIAT range of packaging equipment in the Australian and New Zealand marketplace.

“We are fortunate in that CPS exclusively represents the world’s foremost manufacturers of carton sealing and stretch wrapping equipment, SIAT and MAILLIS of Italy,” Stroszynski enthuses.

“SIAT is the world's largest manufacturer of carton sealing equipment, also producing quality pallet wrappers, carton erectors, ink jet coders and other associated machinery in large quantities for the global marketplace.”

“There are constant model improvements, upgrades and new machines coming on line, along with massive manufacturing infrastructure investment in Italy, which backs up the positions of both SIAT and MAILLIS as world leaders in carton sealing and stretch wrapping equipment.”

“My vision is to introduce theses packaging machines to the Australian and New Zealand markets and customers and provide them with the opportunity to have the world’s Best Practice design and modern efficiencies available to them globally.”

Over the last five years, Stroszynski has observed a definite emphasis on automatic product handling in terms of packaging machinery.

“Indicative of this trend is the steep rise in CPS sales of automated packaging machinery as the associated costs become relatively stable,” she says. “Some prices have even come down against the measure of the average weekly wage.”

Stroszynski points to labour saving costs as the most obvious advantage of automating end of line processes.

“Our automatic models can operate without constant attention and it is not difficult in the right environment to prove the savings to prospective customers,” she says.

“CPS also removes the ‘human error’ component of repetitive sealing and wrapping operations — which ultimately improves a company’s quality control and productivity. An additional advantage is in the cost-saving area of consumption of consumables. For example less film is used in an automated environment.”

“A careful examination of the OH&S factors reveals the opportunities for improvement presented by automation,” she adds. “Equally, we regard safety as one of our most important imperatives, and ensure that our machines all have the appropriate statutory safety approvals.”

“Packaging machinery automation is very important to our customers, small and large. SIAT recognises this and is introducing machines for all markets to improve the automation within our customers’ production lines.”

CPS has been an AUSPACK exhibitor for twenty years.

In 2009, the company will be showcasing automatic film cut off and wielding for semi automatic machines, a high-speed random carton sealer, new stainless steel models for the food manufacturing industries and lower cost entry level units.

“CPS would like to be the best that it can be with the models that we currently promote and in relation to all the prospective machines from Siat and Maillis,” Stroszynski maintains. “This means concentrating on what we do best and not rather than losing our focus with ‘the grass is greener on the other side of the hill’ philosophy.”

“We won’t dilute our business efforts by chasing other non-core equipment. Like many others before us, we tried it once or twice and we did not succeed and we have learnt our lesson. CPS will stick to its knitting and this will be repaid with business success.”
