Print & Apply comes of age

Formed in 1997, Label Power started out in Brisbane but nationwide demand has driven growth into all the major states of Australia with offices in Sydney and Melbourne and future expansions planned.

“Our main focus is on manufacturing labels in up to eight colours,” explains managing director James Malone.

“We provide labelling software such as Easylabel, Bartender, Nice Label and Teklynx Labelview, along with data collection and scanning equipment, Label Dispensers, semi and fully automatic label applicators and rewinders, print and apply equipment and black, white and colour label and tag printers.

"We also offer digital diecutting equipment.

“We export our label dispensers, applicators, printers and consumables into New Zealand and even from as far as India,” he says.

“Direct distribution agreements with leading software and label printer manufacturers mean equipment and software can be shipped to us from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and USA.”

Malone says after an initial consultation, Label Power provides customers with artwork concepts and proofs.

“We can produce the label for a customer or provide advice on the best equipment to overprint variable data in black or colour,” he says.

“Plus we offer machinery to automate applications of the finished labels to their products. Often clients want to bottle their own product then, print and apply their own labels.

"Essentially, they want to take control of label printing and application in house. In these instances, a label can be designed, printed and applied to the product the same day.”

Malone argues products achieve greater differentiation from their competition when labelled in such a personalised manner. It is also much more economical.

“For instance we have semi automatic labelling machines for cylindrical products that start from under $3,000 and can apply up to 1200 labels per hour,” he says.

“Label Power’s strength is the supply of complete solutions depending on the needs of the client ,” Malone says.

“For short runs a typical client setup will consist of stock of blank labels, label design software, a colour label printer to suit depending on speed, quality and volume requirements and an automated label rewinder.

“We then tailor the appropriate application equipment depending on the package type. Labels will print unattended while you work elsewhere in the business and packages can be labelled during the packing process.”

While single colour direct thermal and thermal transfer barcode label printers have now been around for 20 years or more, Malone maintains that the colour printers his company supplies combined with the range of media such as matt, gloss, clear and synthetic including water resistant stocks now available are driving the market to a tipping point for roll to roll colour printers.

“People can now print their own labels in full colour on demand with the same quality they would expect from a professional printer,” he says.

“This means no printing plates, setup costs or minimum quantities. The latest colour Inkjet printers from Label Power such as the Vip Color VP485 can print labels in colour at up to 101.6mm ( 4”) per second.”

“Popular printers such as the Primera LX400 and LX810 provide a slower print speed but higher resolution with amazing 2400DPI print quality,” he adds.

“The latest generation of roll to roll colour laser presses such as the Primera CX1200 give UV resistance, durability and speed and when combined with digital die cutting the flexibility to print and diecut labels in any colour, size, shape and quantity can be targeted at printers or corporate print rooms.”

Asked about Label Power’s future, James Malone points to more innovative products just hitting the market such as the Primera PX450 Colour Coupon printer with integrated cutter, which enables shops and restaurants to promote their business with innovative full colour POS receipts and coupons on every sale.

“After negotiation with a leading Printer manufacturer overseas, Label Power will soon introduce to Australia its own range of Label Power Barcode Printers,” Malone reveals.

“The printers will come with Power and USB cables and free Labelling software and consumables, everything that is needed to get printing your labels on demand quickly.”
