Sustainable coding solutions and intelligent Solvers that minimise eco impact will be showcased at AUSPACK 2009; the largest biennial packaging and processing machinery, materials and associated technology exhibition for Australasia.

New lasers to be showcased on the Markem-Imaje stand during AUSPACK 2009 offer sustainable coding solutions without the cost of consumables.

The new Markem-Imaje laser range series does not require external cooling or refrigeration and can work continuously at temperatures up to 35?c making them very energy efficient and sustainable, therefore lowering the cost of operation.

The compact and modular scribing CO2 lasers deliver permanent and high quality product coding (text, variable data, logos, 1D and 2D bar codes.)

The 30 Watt version is the ideal solution for 1 to 5-line applications at high speed with the 10 Watt version suitable for 2-line applications with logo or barcode.

The 7031 laser specifically has been designed for the most demanding production environments. This high power vector technology is well suited for printing onto substrates such as inked paper, painted metals or glass in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries.

KHS Pacific, manufacturer and supplier of packaging equipment for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries will once-again be exhibiting at AUSPACK 2009.

According to Mr Kurt Hofmann, Managing Director of KHS Pacific the company provides turnkey plants and individual machine for food, non food and beverages.

“KHS Pacific supply packaging systems for the dairy industry, including bottling plants, tub fillers, cup filling, cheese cutting, wrapping, pouching, case packers, palletisers and bulk packaging,” Mr Hofmann says.

“In beverages, we manufacture and supply individual machines for filling, sealing, labelling, packing and palletising of glass and PET bottles, cans and kegs for all types of beverages, including beer, spirits, wine, soft drinks, mineral water and juices.

"KHS Pacific also manufacture and design machines for PET bottles and shapes including stretch blow moulding, barrier coating and aseptic filling.” he says.

Another of the many products that long-time AUSPACK exhibitor, Matthews Intelligent Identification will be exhibiting on stand 170 will be the new Linz 6900 Solver CIJ printer which provides intelligent solvent usage lowering cost of ownership and minimising eco impact.

The highly efficient Linx 6900 Solver has been added to the existing Linx 6900 continuous inkjet (CIJ) range. The Linx 6900 Solver uses a new ink system and specifically created intelligent software to ‘think as it inks’.

The software measures how much ink is being returned from the print-head via the gutter line in real time, and the Solver's ink system dynamically adjusts the amount of suction applied to the gutter, according to how much ink is being returned.

This means the printer always provides enough suction to clear the gutter, but not too much (unlike standard CIJ printers). Optimised suction reduces airflow in the gutter line, which in turn reduces solvent evaporation.

An added benefit is that because the Linx 6900 Solver uses less solvent, it reduces the environmental impact of coding.

Raw material processing, packaging and transportation requirements are all reduced. Less solvent is evaporated into the atmosphere, so there is less smell, and Linx printer solvents are non-toxic, offering greater environmental benefits than other coders.

Mr Phil Biggs, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Matthews adds that AUSPACK is a great opportunity for existing and new customers to evaluate the latest technologies they have on offer.

“We have launched many new products here, including RFID labelling equipment back in 2001, through to fibre YAG laser coders, which were awarded ‘Best New Product’ at AUSPACK 2007,” Mr Biggs says.

“This year’s AUSPACK theme: The Future of Packaging and Processing, fits the Matthews’ philosophy perfectly. We firmly believe less operational risk, higher reliability and lower cost of ownership are even more vital now and in the future, hence our focus on rapid response and service excellence.”

“AUSPACK is a great place for us to demonstrate to Australian manufacturers, large and small, across many industries, the real benefits of our innovative technology and after sales technical support processes,” he says.

AUSPACK will be held from Tuesday the 16th through to Friday the 19th of June 2009 at the Sydney Showgrounds, Sydney Olympic Park.

AUSPACK is owned and presented by the Australian Packaging Machinery Association, Australia’s only national packaging and processing machinery organisation.
