d'Arenberg's wine bottling facility in McLaren Vale operates on a two-shift per day basis producing high quality wine.
In the past, palletising packed cartons of wine was a manual operation, a boring and arduous task from which it was was difficult to provide and achieve job satisfaction for its staff.
Visy Automations' proposal to automate the palletising of cartons weighing up to approximately 20 kgs gross allowed a unique opportunity to introduce robotic automation into the operation.
To a large degree, the two shifts at d'Arenberg provided the potential labour savings to warrant such an installation.
In addition eliminating OH&S issues and overcoming staff concerns about poor job satisfaction provided the impetus for this proposal to proceed further.
The system design needed to accommodate both 6 and 12 bottle cartons at production speeds varying between 8 and 12 cartons per minute, in 6 different pallet patterns.
The maximum number of variants specified to be handled was 18.
Only a few minor programming problems were experienced during the project implementation phase. Such obstacles have either been or are presently being overcome.
"It is fantastic," d'Arry Osborn Managing Director of d'Arenberg Pty Ltd. says of the Visy Robotic Palletiser.
"Visy Automations' installation provided the means to eliminate a range of OH & S issues, and allow reductions in labour costs and labour overhead costs to be achieved," he adds.
John Ward, Packaging & Warehouse Manager for d'Arenberg says from the day the company first spoke about the project, the service and follow-up has been very professional, and the installation smooth.
"The outcome meets and exceeds my expectations on behalf of d'Arenberg," he enthuses
