At Germany's FachPack fair in late September, technology producer Bizerba from Balingen will present labelling devices with integrated RFID units (hall 9, booth 136).

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) radio technology allows for the transmission of data by radio waves — without contact and without visual contact.

For this purpose, so-called transponders are fixed to the individual packaging units, which may store data on the product or delivery.

A reader may read the stored data using radio waves. This results in decisive advantages for the goods receipt and goods issue processes. For example, parcels do not have to be identified individually and manually using the barcode, but can be registered by an RFID gate in bunch using radio waves.

“The incoming and outgoing goods are entered automatically," explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions Market for Bizerba.

"Loading and unloading processes are substantially expedited with simultaneous quantity check. Since no visual contact between reader and label is required, this increases the reliability of identification even in case of dirty or wet labels.”

Both the GLP case label printer and the GLM-L logistics labeller, as well as the GLM-P 2S pallet labeller from Bizerba may optionally be equipped with an RFID unit.

The RFID recording unit is integrated in a traditional label printer. As a consequence, it is possible without increased space requirements to write transponders and at the same time print data on the label — for example the barcode.

The Bizerba RFID devices can of course write transponders according to the common standards, such as the EPC Global Standard.

“The unique advantage of the Bizerba solution is that despite multiple usage only one interface to the device is required, irrespective of whether data are to be printed or stored on the transponder," says Conzelmann.

"The revolutionary Easy-Link RFID concept facilitates the connection of the RFID devices, and enables companies to switch to this trend-setting technology without any problems.”

Through the Bizerba Communication Tool (BCT) interface, the connection of external reading stations and therefore a customised data management for all warehousing processes is possible.
