Having won Best New Product in 2007 and now in 2009, AUSPACK visitors were attracted to see the award winning iDSnet Express technology at work.
iDSnet Express is product traceability and production reporting software that eliminates coding and labelling errors.
Connected to all the devices on the stand, visitors were shown the benefits of networking devices to a centralised product database.
Amongst the benefits of centralised control, ease of use, faster product changeovers, increased quality control, elimination of coding errors and full product traceability, the inclusion of vision systems adds a whole host of new advantages.
Devices installed with a vision system and iDSnet Express can verify whether the correct code and label have been applied to each product.
The system is able to read the text on the label to confirm a product label match and can identify colours within liquids to ensure, for instance, a lemon label is not placed on a product that is orange.
Mark Dingley, manager of identification systems at Matthews, says that FMCG manufacturers no longer have to face the problems in product recalls and re-work from incorrect or un-coded products.
“iDSnet Express verifies whether products have been coded correctly," he says. "If any aspect is considered to be out of tolerance, we can divert that product, or raise alarms if the problem continues.
“The system can also provide e-mail alerts to the manufacturer, or Matthews, of any machine faults, warning or pending scheduled maintenance.
"Thus, in many cases, devices can be serviced before they fail or before print quality becomes an issue - adding further value for FMCG manufacturers.
“We know that when production lines stop, it really hurts the bottom line," Dingley says. "So we’ve designed iDSnet Express to maximise efficiency and production whilst minimising problems and errors.”
Another benefit of iDSnet Express to manufacturers is its Production Traceability and Reporting tools. The system incorporates real-time visual production statistics and efficiency web reports, providing supervisors and managers with up-to-the minute data and feedback on production performances against set targets.
iDSnet Express is now available in a ‘cellophane wrapped’ package that the manufacturer can download and self-install.
